- Q: What products and services are offered?
A: Identity verifications, criminal research and reporting, resume verification, driving history, credit history, drug and alcohol screening, and more.
- Q: What is the cost to run a background check?
A: Prices vary by product and package and are volume-sensitive. Regardless, Trak-1 provides its customers with product solutions that are competitively priced and not cost prohibitive.
- Q: How is the background check requested?
A: Trak-1’s customers log on to our web platform with a unique user name and password, fill out a form with the applicant’s data and receive the results—in many cases instantaneously!
- Q: Should I obtain a consent form from a prospective employee or volunteer before requesting a background check?
A: Yes. Though criminal records are public information, credit and other Fair Credit Reporting Act information is not and therefore requires a consent form to be signed by the person on whom a background check is being run. During customer orientation, we provide a sample consent form for our customers' use. The customer will not be asked to fax the consent form over to Trak-1, but consent forms will need to be kept on-site for a recommended 90 days before disposal.
- Q: How often are the Trak-1 criminal records updated?
A: Trak-1 diligently works to update our records as quickly as the public data records are updated. Typically public databases are updated monthly, however, some are updated quarterly. We seek to make the lag time between their updates and our updates as small and as seamless as possible.
- Q: How long will the records stay in the system once an applicant is screened?
A: Records are considered current for 90 days. After that time, records are stored in archived files and are accessible indefinitely, if needed. However, to maintain accurate records, the industry recommends re-screening after 90 days.
- Q: When implementing a background screening plan, should current employees be screened?
A: Yes. Screening all employees ensures that you have consistent, compliant and accurate records and reduces your risk of discriminatory employment practices by treating all employees equally.
